Marie Stopes International is one of the UK’s most respected names in sexual health. Each year their network of clinics across the UK help over 100,000 men and women with their sexual health needs including contraception, termination of pregnancy and male and female sterilisation.
Female sterilisation
Female sterilisation is the most popular form of contraception in the world. It is a safe and effective method chosen by women who have completed their family or do not wish to have any more children.
Marie Stopes International's Essex Clinic has carried out thousands of female sterilisations making them one of the most experienced organisations in this field.
The clinic offers a comprehensive and confidential service which includes:

The procedure
Female sterilisation works by sealing the fallopian tubes that carry eggs from the ovaries to the uterus. This prevents the egg and sperm meeting, and the eggs are simply reabsorbed by the body. The procedure itself is very straightforward and is performed by highly trained gynaecologists. It is carried out under general anaesthetic or sedation and clips are used to seal the fallopian tubes. It only takes 15-20 minutes to complete.
Considerations
Female sterilisation is a permanent method of contraception and so should only be considered by women who have completed their families or do not wish to have any children. If in doubt another method of contraception should be chosen. Female sterilisation offers no protection against sexually transmitted infections or HIV/AIDS.
Effectiveness
Female sterilisation is over 99% effective; about 1 in 200 women will still become pregnant after having a sterilisation.
