The well experienced team of paediatric specialists and clinical support staff at the Bupa Cromwell Paediatric Centre provide a wide range of services for children of all ages, from simple daycase procedures to the more complex procedures now practiced in paediatric medicine and surgery.
The Paediatric Centre is made up of a dedicated child friendly paediatric ward (Starfish Ward) with integral operating theatre (Rainbow Theatre), and a dedicated Paediatric Outpatient Department. Plus, Bupa Cromwell is one of only two private London hospitals to have a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).
The first floor Paediatric Outpatient Department offers daily clinics for a wide range of specialities for the new born baby through to teenagers. Their Paediatricians are available for consultations six days a week and provide a 24hr on call service.
The Paediatric Centre is equipped with a secure access system to ensure the safety of the children at all times.
Clinical expertise
The Centre is led by Professor Edward Howard, MS FRCS(Eng) FRCS(Ed) and the experienced team of dedicated paediatric consultants is drawn from London's principal teaching hospitals. These are supported by a team of Paediatric Fellows providing on site medical cover 24 hrs a day.
Clinical support staff
Bupa Cromwell Hospital's clinical support staff are all highly experienced and specialised in paediatrics and work as part of a multi-discplinary team. The team includes: specialist children's nurses; a paediatric play specialist; dieticians, physiotherapists; occupational therapists; speech and language therapists and interpreters.
Paediatric consultants
Many of Bupa Cromwell Hospital's paediatricians are dedicated paediatric specialists which means that they only treat children and not adults. They also have a Community Paediatrician who can see children for a variety of general childhood ailments and can refer on as appropriate to one of the Paediatric Consultants.
Specialised care
At Bupa Cromwell Hospital they know that going into hospital can be scary for children as well as a very worrying time for parents. All of the staff in the Paediatric Centre are well experienced in looking after children and their families and will do everything they can to make your child's stay, whether as an out-patient or in-patient as pleasant as possible.
Additionally, their qualified Paediatric Play Specialist and other clinical support staff, will be on hand to support the nursing staff, children and parents to make their hospital experience a more positive one.
Outpatient and diagnostic facilities
The Paediatric Centre has a dedicated outpatient area with a comprehensive range of diagnostic facilities on hand. The centre has an MRI scanner, a CT scanner, ultrasound equipment, general radiography, nuclear medicine, an angiography laboratory, audiology, neurophysiology and an on-site pathology laboratory. The Paediatric Play Specialist will be on hand to help put your child at ease for any scans they may need.
They can offer daycase anaesthetic for MRI scans where appropriate according to the needs of the child.
Child friendly
All patient areas are furnished and decorated to create a friendly and relaxed atmosphere for children, their parents and carers. Each bedroom has a TV with DVD and en-suite bathroom. Folding beds are available to enable one parent to stay overnight with their child.
The unit's activity and play centre provides activities for both children and adolescents, and has a good range of books, music, games and toys including a Play Station 2 and Xbox.
